New York – The Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, warned of the continued international community’s neglect of the plight of children in the Gaza Strip, who face daily bloodshed, hunger, illness, and cold amid the ongoing genocide perpetrated by the Zionist entity.
Catherine Russell stated in a statement regarding the developments in the Gaza Strip that the attack on the Nusseirat camp in central Gaza last Thursday raised the number of children who have been martyred in Gaza over the past month to more than 160, averaging 4 children per day since the beginning of November.
She explained that children in Gaza “are paying the highest price with their lives and futures.”
She noted that more than 14,500 children have been martyred in the past 14 months, and that 1.1 million children are in urgent need of protection and psychological support.
Russell emphasized that the threat of famine remains prevalent in northern Gaza and that the access to humanitarian aid is extremely limited.
The UN official reported that children are facing shortages of food, clean water, medicine, and winter clothing, alongside the spread of preventable diseases such as rashes and respiratory infections.
The Executive Director of UNICEF affirmed that the world cannot remain indifferent while such a large number of children suffer daily from bloodshed, hunger, illness, and cold.
