LUXEMBOURG- The Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) ruled on Friday in favor of the Polisario Front by rejecting the appeals brought by the Council and the Commission of the European Union (EU) and approving the annulment of the signed agreements between Morocco and the European Union extended to occupied Western Sahara.
In September 2021, the General Court of the European Union declared the annulment of the two fishing and agricultural agreements linking Morocco to the European Union and extended to occupied Western Sahara, affirming that they were concluded in violation of the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) of 2016 and without the consent of the people of Western Sahara. The European Council and Commission filed an appeal before the CJEU in December of the same year.
In a statement to the APS, the representative of the Polisario Front in Switzerland and to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, Oubi Bouchraya Bachir indicated that the decision of the CJEU constitutes “a great victory” for the Sahrawi cause in his legal battle to put an end to the plundering of the resources of the Sahrawi people.
