LONDON – New British Foreign Secretary David Lammy called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during a visit to the region on Sunday, the British Foreign Office said.
“The death and destruction in Gaza is intolerable. This war must end immediately, with an immediate ceasefire,”
Lammy was quoted as saying in a ministry statement. Lammy is due to meet the president of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, as well as officials of the Zionist entity and will advocate for a “credible and irreversible path towards a two-state solution”, added the same source.
Lammy’s Labor Party, elected handily earlier this month, said “long-term peace and security in the Middle East would be an immediate priority”.
