New York (United Nations) – Yesterday, Friday, the Security Council unanimously adopted a press statement initiated by Algeria, calling for immediate, independent, comprehensive, transparent and impartial investigations to determine the circumstances behind these graves that are still being discovered in the Gaza Strip, revealing the true and hideous picture of the Zionist killing machine.
In the statement, which was adopted following the closed debate called by Algeria last Tuesday on mass graves in Gaza, members of the Security Council expressed their deep concern over reports of the discovery of mass graves in and around the Nasser and Shifa hospitals in Gaza, where several hundred bodies were buried. , including women, children and the elderly.
All Council members also stressed the need to allow investigators unhindered access to all mass grave sites in Gaza.
This consensus highlighted the extent of resentment prevailing in the international community due to the occupier’s persistence in his crimes and the lack of confidence in any investigations conducted by the occupation authorities.
In this regard, the members of the Security Council stressed the need for accountability for violations of international law and reiterated their demand that all parties strictly comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law and international human rights law, in particular with regard to the protection of civilians.
In light of this tragedy that the families of the victims and missing persons are going through, the members of the Security Council once again noted the importance of enabling families to know the fate and whereabouts of their missing relatives in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law.
The members of the Security Council also stressed the need for all parties to implement Security Council Resolutions 2728 (2024), 2720 (2023) and 2712 (2023) immediately and fully in order to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Thus, Algeria has succeeded once again in formulating a solution for the Council that enjoys the consensus of all its members without exception, which strengthens international pressure on the Zionist occupier, who can no longer shirk its responsibilities.
It should be noted that the adoption of this statement came after persistent efforts, consultations and intense negotiations led by Algeria in New York with members of the Security Council as well as with the Palestinian side, where Algeria insisted during the negotiations that investigations into these heinous crimes be immediate, independent, comprehensive, transparent and impartial.
Despite the objection of some and the maneuvers of the occupation representatives within the corridors of the United Nations, for fear of the calls for accountability that are tightening the noose around the necks of the occupation officials day after day, Algeria insisted on its position and everyone finally caved in the face of the strength of the argument and the justice of the case.
