Arab Parliament deeply regrets veto of Algeria’s draft resolution calling for immediate ceasefire in Gaza

CAIRO – The Arab Parliament expressed its deep regret following the veto of the draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, presented by Algeria to the Security Council on behalf of Arab States, warning against the dangerous escalation of the situation by the Zionist war machine in the face of the inertia of the International Community and the Security Council.

“What is taking place within the Security Council confirms that we are faced with a system incapable of maintaining international peace and stability,” the Arab Parliament denounced on Tuesday in a press release, calling for “the imperative reform of this body to enable it to carry out the missions assigned to it: establishing peace and security far from double standards”.

“The continuation of barbaric massacres in the Gaza Strip is a shame for humanity,” criticized the Arab Parliament, calling on the international community to “take its responsibilities to put an end to the shedding of Palestinian blood.”

The United Nations Security Council failed on Tuesday to bring about Algeria’s efforts for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, after the rejection of the draft resolution presented by Algeria in its capacity as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, following the veto opposed by the United States.

At the end of the vote, the permanent representative of Algeria to the United Nations, Amar Bendjama, deeply regretted this new failure of the Security Council to rise to the level of the calls and aspirations of the people, ensuring that the Algeria “will not stop until the Security Council fully assumes its responsibilities and calls for a ceasefire.”

This is the third time that Washington has used its right of veto since the start of the Zionist aggression against the Gaza Strip on October 7. Indeed, while the world strives to put an end to the barbaric aggression against the Gaza Strip and establish peace in the region, the United States has torpedoed all international efforts, by vetoing the Security Council resolution calling for a “humanitarian truce” in Gaza last October and December.

The failure of the Security Council to adopt the draft resolution presented by Algeria comes despite the warnings issued by numerous States, organizations and judicial and humanitarian bodies, while the toll of incessant Zionist aggression in the Strip of Ghaza, on the 138th consecutive day, amounts to 29,195 martyrs and 69,170 wounded.
