Cairo – The League of Arab States confirmed that the Zionist occupation is implementing a scorched earth policy in the Gaza Strip, and is inflicting severe destruction on basic facilities, which indicates a disgusting desire to wreak havoc and make what remains of the Palestinian territories uninhabitable for life, believing that spreading despair in the hearts of the Palestinians through policies Barbaric punishment will force them to surrender.

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, said in his speech during the opening of the sixth session of the “Cairo Water Week” conference, today, (Sunday) : “History will record once again that the Zionist entity mercilessly implements a scorched earth policy through its deliberate targeting of water and sewage plants and hospitals.” In Gaza, from north to south, with highly destructive weapons to forcibly displace the Palestinians in an effort to liquidate their cause at the expense of their rights and at the expense of neighboring countries.”

He pointed out that the occupation is committing once again, in front of the world, a new crime that is added to its record of crimes, which is full of the systematic violations it has committed since the Nakba, out of a desire to complete its plan to push the population of Gaza, who were originally made up of refugees, to emigrate again, by bombing them randomly and depriving them of the minimum rights..the right to water, the right to food, and the right to treatment.

The Secretary-General of the Arab league pointed out that the Zionist occupation targets Palestinian infrastructure, as it did before in southern Lebanon and Syria, without any restrictions and without regard to the rules of international humanitarian law, which criminalizes in Article 54 of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions attacking or disrupting the transfer of materials that are indispensable including water facilities and irrigation networks, noting also the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, which considers the destruction of infrastructure and water networks war crimes, and other international conventions that prohibit the use of water as a weapon against civilians.

He continued: “It is not the first time that the occupation has used water as a weapon. It not only stole Arab water, but also systematically targeted all water facilities out of its awareness of the importance of this basic resource in life, stability and development and its desire to restrict the Palestinians and keep them at the mercy of thirst.” Hunger and disease.”

Aboul Gheit praised the studies prepared by the “Arab Water Experts Network” operating under the umbrella of the Arab Ministerial Water Council to assess the damage to the water sector in Gaza, pointing out that the results of those studies were presented in July 2022 at the headquarters of the League’s General Secretariat, where they raised the alarm about the situation.

The catastrophic situation that has befallen the water and sewage networks as a result of the repeated occupation attacks, adding: “This is how the situation in Gaza was disastrous two years ago, so what are the conditions today in light of the horrific scenes we are seeing?”
