Algeria- US| Attaf meets in Washington with his American counterpart

ALGIERS- The Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, on a working visit to Washington, instructed by the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, had talks with his American counterpart , Mr. Antony Blinken, during which the two parties reviewed the state and prospects of Algerian-American relations and discussed several regional and international issues of common interest, said a statement from the ministry.

The two ministers “highlighted the depth and solidity of the historical relations, friendship and cooperation linking Algeria and the United States of America”, welcoming “the pace of bilateral political consultations and of the expansion of economic relations to new areas, as well as the promising prospects for further achievements based on the values of friendship, trust and understanding”.

To this end, Mr Attaf and Blinken reaffirmed “the strong political will of the leaders of the two countries to strengthen the Algerian-American partnership and raise it to the highest levels”, added the press release. In addition, the two parties exchanged views on regional developments, particularly the situation in Niger, Mali and Libya, underlining “the convergence of the positions of the two countries as well as their steps to favor peaceful solutions to these crises. in order to spare the region the risks of the military option,” the statement noted. They also referred to “the developments of the Palestinian question with regard to the continued blockage of the political process”, as well as “the latest developments of the Saharawi question”, reaffirming their support for the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, to allow both parties to the conflict to adhere, without preconditions and in good faith, to the political process framed by the United Nations”, adds the same source.

The two ministers “welcomed the great convergence of the positions of the two countries around the issues raised on the bilateral and multilateral levels”, expressing their desire to “continue efforts to explore the promising prospects of the Algerian-American partnership and intensify the relations of consultation and coordination, in particular during the next mandate of Algeria” as a non-permanent member of the Security Council, concluded the press release.
